Four Week Immersion Course

Marine Military Academy offers an academic summer camp in English as a Second Language (ESL). Open to boys between the ages of 12 and 17, and age 18 if not graduated from high school.  The English as a Second Language summer camp program is a four-week total immersion experience. During the day, ESL students attend classes taught by MMA foreign language, English, and math teachers in which they learn to speak, read, and write contemporary American English. Focus is on practical vocabulary needed to study subjects offered at MMA during the regular academic year. Weekly proficiency exams track the students' progress.

Learning Inside and Outside the Classroom

After school, the boys participate in the same kinds of activities enjoyed by the military summer camp.  Activities focusing on sports and physical fitness in a military environment are designed to foster teamwork, problem solving and increase self-esteem and confidence. Field trips to cultural and sports events and local points of interest give the boys practice in using English in the real world. The best students from the group are invited to apply to MMA for the academic year. The ESL program is open to students from other countries at all levels of English proficiency. Some boys find it useful to return for a second summer. Since the program uses only English, native speakers of any language can benefit.

Each MMA instructor is a fully qualified and motivated professional. They are deeply experienced in their subject field and intimately familiar with MMA's unique educational approach. Audio/visual and online resources are included liberally within the curriculum.

ESL Summer Camp Pricing for 2013

We strongly encourage you to submit your son’s application and supporting documents for English as a Second Language summer camp at the earliest convenience to avoid being placed on a waiting list.

The due date for your summer camp fee will be specified on your son’s acceptance cover letter notification. However, please note that all camp fees must be paid in full before the camp check in date.

Once an applicant is accepted to participate in the English as a Second Language summer camp program, an acceptance packet will be sent. This packet provides an official notification regarding his acceptance and includes additional information, such as a “Who to Call” sheet and a “What to Bring” list.
