GREAT CHALLENGES ON HIGH:  CONQUERING FEARS – MMA’S HIGH CHALLENGE COURSE

Using nothing more than a huge issue of “guts”, GOLF COMPANY campers balance aboard a telephone pole secured to two parallel poles.  Sounds pretty easy, right?  However, there’s a catch…The pole is 20-30 feet off the ground!  No worries, Moms and Dads – each camper is secured within a myriad of security ropes which are steadied by a half-dozen or so instructors and campers whose feet are planted firmly upon the ground.

On to the Multi-Line Bridge where the camper progresses across the rope ‘bridge’ while steadying himself with a series of ropes dangling from an upper cable…just barely out of reach. STRETCH, stretch some more….grab the rope, and hold steady!

Then there’s the ever-popular ‘Heebie-Jeebie’. Two lengths of rope are adhered to telephone poles, anchored to a lower cable on which the camper walks, using the ropes for support. The support offered by the first rope diminishes steadily, until the camper is forced to switch to the other rope.  “There’s no gain in waiting, son,” counsels SgtMaj Wilson from a few thirty feet below, “Either way, you’re going somewhere…across or straight down!”

The reward?  Hook up your harness, shimmy up a 10-foot ladder, climb straight to the top of the 30-foot telephone pole while inserting your shoes into the steel pegs, move one foot to the very top of the pole, then the other. Push both hands from your planted knee and as your second foot moves where your mind tells you its got to go, fling both arms out straight to steady your.  Inch your body upwards until you’re standing straight and tall.  You see the prize…the white plastic “carrot” suspended a few of feet upward, then downward as the below urge you on to victory.  You jump, smack the plastic triumphantly as the ropes and harness pull taut on your harnesses by the crew below.  You lower slowly, as you realize you’ve done what you set your mind to…that’s the stuff MMA’s Summer Campers are made of…OORAH!
